What’s in a name?
A name is our identity, the one which projects us. I have heard people name their kids, according to their looks, but can few have a better instinct than that? Do parents select names according to the passion that their kids will enjoy in future? Is it possible that sometimes the name that they choose becomes the passion? Did I ask too many questions and leave you confused?
I am named Vanessa, which is a genus of butterflies that is inclusive of Red Admiral and Painted Lady. I think the above questions would have made sense now. I always wondered whether my name influenced in being attracted towards birds and wildlife! When I suggested it to my friends, they just joked that they felt great that my parents did not name me Anata which means Goddess of Earth, for then I would have imagined to be the ruler of this world!!!
As we continued with such jokes, I found the love of my life and any guesses on his name? He was Merle! I think this was far more than coincidence, and it reflected that my life revolved around birds. We still joke on our names, and though I haven’t yet decided on whether it was destiny or more than that to be associated with birds, I just love being with them.
