Extinction of birds
The facts are out, in the last 2 centuries around 100 birds have disappeared from the face of earth just like that. Can you believe it, that so many birds were wiped out? Who is responsible for this? Was it because of natural disasters? Or was it due to any disease? It is not possible for so many to die without one of the above being the reason. But dear readers, man is solely responsible for such a huge loss. One can’t stop feeling guilty when one hears the accusation that all human beings are murderers.
What have we done? Or should the question be what have we not done? We have great advancements in the name of technology, and that has resulted in huge chaos. One can’t stop blaming the modern agricultural methods which do not give many options for nesting. In addition to this man has encroached upon natural habitats of birds, for the sake of development which resulted in the death of so many birds. The usage of pesticides and other chemicals in food grains also affected them.
There has been a tremendous climatic change due to global warming which in turn is due to man’s activities. We in the name of fishing have also killed a large number of albatross due to longline fisheries. Introduction of other animals in a place can prove harmful to the native species. This is a very simple concept, but not many people realize it. Hawaii was infested with rats, and in order to deal with its menace the government brought in mongoose. After sometime this mongoose began to hunt one of the endangered species, White Breasted Thrasher.
I have given you the various reasons to call us murderers, are we listening? Are we ready to take further steps to improve the situation?
