To go the way of the Dodo
Many people must have heard this phrase. But did you know what was Dodo? I know not many people know it was a bird, for my nephew suggested that it must have been the name of some warrior who died fighting a war. It is an extinct species, and this can be said to be the first recorded extinction that ever occurred. Hence this phrase is used in order to refer to something which is not in practice, or is old.
This bird was found in the Mauritius islands. It was flightless bird and it was never hunted since it was believed that its meat was too hard. It lived in perfect isolation, without any contact with the outside world. So when people landed on this island, the birds were for a perfect shock. People brought cats, dogs, mongoose, and other animals along with them. Poor Dodo was not used to this atmosphere and slowly it could not defend itself. Dodo is a perfect example of how isolation of a species could render it so defenseless, that it would lead to its death. It is also an example of how induced animals, could lead to extinction of the native species.
We can say that it was a perfect example for so many things, but Dodo is never going to come back! And the irony is we never have learned from this mistake either.
This image should at least make us repent.
